After their three children had all left home in 1989, Pueblo couple Cora and Stan Krol found themselves wondering what to do next.
“He said, ‘Why don’t you find a place to work with and see if you actually like it first?’ Well, lo and behold, the next day there’s an ad in the Pueblo newspaper for help in a group home with adolescents. I called a number, filled out an application, and she hired me. And I saw so many neat kids, I thought, ‘I can do this.'”
In the 34 years since, Cora and Stan have raised more than 130 foster children in their home.
Every year, Cora said she and Stan take the kids in their care on vacation, which Cora cites as one of the ingredients to their success.
During their yearly vacations, the couple have brought their kids all over, from Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Park in New Mexico to the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Fostering kids is somewhat of a family tradition now for the Krols as their biological daughter, Tammy Walton, is now a foster parent herself.
