On Monday (October 23), Mariah Carey remembered her late father, Alfred Roy Carey, on his 94th birthday.

The 53-year-old music star posted a snapshot of herself on Instagram with a touching comment, remembering her father.

The photo showed her smiling sweetly with a sunflower in her palm as she looked out. ‘Sunflowers for Alfred Roy. Remembering my Father on his birthday today,’ she wrote under the snapshot.

Her father died 21 years ago, on July 4, 2002, at 72, after battling cancer. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Carey reflects on her father’s desire for discipline, culture, and freedom.
