Bradley Cooper Recalls ‘Crazy’ Meeting with Beyonce for A Star Is Born: ‘Jay-Z Was Watching Judge Judy’

JAY-Z and Beyoncé made Bradley Cooper’s meeting memorable. Before Lady Gaga played Ally, an aspiring singer, in A Star is Born, the actor met with the powerhouse pair.

Cooper said he proposed Beyoncé to studio boss Greg Silverman, who said he would do it if he could “create it for around $25 million.”

“I went to Beyoncé’s house, and Jay-Z was watching Judge Judy, I still remember. I’m not kidding. And I was freaking [out]. I remember I had this weird cough when I was pitching it to her,” he said during a recent interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. Cooper says that after a year of development with Beyoncé, the deal fell through.

Adele was also on the list for the movie, but she texted Bradley, saying she was “busy.” Finally, after hearing Lady Gaga sing at a benefit, he knew she was the one for the role.
